closing

For some reason my machine c;oses the internet connection when left alone for long periods of time. Then I have to repair the connection to get back online. Any ideas how I can stop it closing?

Are you using dial-up if you are using Dial-up most likely this is using auto-disconnect.

Can you let me know what type of connection your using. Dial-up or Broadband then we can help you better.
 
Hey Hellbreather, my friend, the guy said that he has to repair his connection to make it work, which probably means that he is using a broadband connection as dial ups don't get repaired :D

As to the problem itself, I used to experience such problems with my broadband, all what you need is to reset your router or cable modem, as most of them hang after long periods of operation. You must reset the router or modem manually by unplugging the power from it and then re-plug it again.

If you are experiencing the problem with the windows itself, I think this is just a windows bug or something like that which de-activates the connection after some period of time of idle operation.

He could be on a routed dialup line ;)
 
Are you connecting to net via a router? If so could just be the timeout/idle setting for the router being too short.
