COD4: Steam vs DVD

If you get a game like, for example COD4, from steam, does it act like steam games like counter strike. By this i mean, it registers to your account and you cant move it to another account. If you buy the DVD from the store are you required to register it with steam? Can you still play with people who bought it from Steam?

If you buy the dvd and add it as a non steam game, and someone on your friends list is playing it, can you still use the "Join Game" thing even though yours is non-steam?

Sorry lots of questions, steam just is seeming like a handy PITA and im a little confused. I like the features but dont likee the restrictions.

Thanks

When you buy CoD4 via Steam, it's not the same as Counter Strike, for instance if you bought the game via Steam and launched it, it will open up the program separately of Steam, unlike CS where the two are pretty integrated.

You will [should] have the same server list, as the multiplayer game is being launched the same as it would with just the DVD.

You do not need to register it with Steam if you don't want to, although it will allow you to download it if you loose the DVD for instance.

Personally if they are the same price, I would buy the DVD and register it with Steam.

Could you register the dvd with steam?
Cause i have CoD2 but my key doesnt work with steam cause its a "Non-Stean" version. Is that different for cod4?

I actually ran into that problem as well, I believe it was because I purchased a version of CoD2 that was released before it was available on Steam.

As far as I know CoD4 can be activated on Steam, although I'm not 100% sure.
