codec conflicts

ok, i first installed a codec pack called nimo codec pack, to play certain file extensions, that windows could not handle by default. this worked fine, until I came across others that i couldn't play, so I ended up installing Ac3 sound filter, divX, and Xvid, on various different occasions forgetting that nimo codec pack was there. later, i came across other extensions that i couldnt play, and was recommended CCCP as an option which i later installed.

I have now ended up with all of these codecs on my PC, and now I have some apparent conflicts going on with the sound on certain DVD's, and other video clips. the sound is very echoed, grainy and slow, but is still possible to make out words etc. it really spoils watching a film though:cool:

is it possible to bring up a list in windows XP of all of the codes present on my system so I can post it here and see if anything important is missing?
(if not, why not? surely would be a useful function on an OS, particularly for media use.)

I do remember the installation of CCCP asked me to remove a couple of codecs (which i did), "because they are known to cause problems", i remember one was 'direct vobsub' but cant remember the other.

please help me with this annoying problem,
thanks

thanks i'll give it a try but I cant find the right link, dont suppose you have one?
(or a setup file you could email me)

ok i deleted all other codec packs, nimo, CCCP, AC3,divX, Xvid, and installed this codec pack from that link, following all the instructions with the default settings, but the sound is still messed up on my DVD's.

any other ideas?

I had divx on my PC before but deleted it when i put k-lite on, because i thought it had its own codec pack bundled in the player, which could cause conflicts with k-lite?

will it be ok to install DivX, when i still have k-lite on here?

(before i was using nero showtime,(because i like the user interface), windows media player 10, and since installing k-lite, used media player classic, all of which had the problem)

Yeah, It should be Ok, it's worth a try, If not just un-install it. It should work.

Also, you know there's WMP11, Try that also :)

Yes, that is the one i use at the moment, and have the DivX Codecs which are easily downloaded off their website, just watch a movie on it, and if you cant view it, just follow the error details and WMP will always find you the right Codecs, i never get any Codec issues any more :)

ok i installed divx now with all components, but i cant seem to get the divx player to play the dvd. im not sure how to use it, I cant go to file>open in the divx player menu, because it simply explores the disk instead of playing it, and when i right click on D:\THE_BEACH in my compiter there is no option to 'open with...' :

(also i cant install wmp11 on my pc because it says my copy of windows isnt genuine, so is there an option to web search for missing codecs in wmp10?)

thanks

dint use WMP 11, many people have issues with it.

If you need a video player, try VLC player. So far it has not give me any problem. I used it with the CCCP codec. But I'm pretty sure it can work with k-lite too.

you can download VLC Player from this link:

I would like to disagree, Windows Media Player 11 has helped me uninstall all DVD viewing software from my computer, it is perfect and a great job from Microsoft!

VLC Player is very good, i have to agree but nothing beats WMP 11 in my opinion, i am a user of this great software :D

in that case, I stand corrected...
i haven't use WMP 11 myself :P:P
but my friend has been having trouble with it... not sure why...
maybe I should take a look at his problem first...
