Cold Cathode Help

I am a noob at the aspect of cold cathodes and have no interest in putting them in my computer but I was rather going to add it as a light on my desk so that it would be hidden but would look cool too. Anyways I picked up a cheap psu from Fry's and a couple of cold cathodes and when I plug it in I get nothing. I've tried two psus and two cold cathodes now with no avail. Is it the cathodes or am I just epically failing?

Here's some pics of whats going on:

you have to jump the 24pin connector, according to the pic you posted its plugged into the wall outlet then only into the cold cathode correct?

I have the psu plugged into the wall and the 4-pin molex into the cathode and that is it.

Turn the switch of the PSU off. Then you're gonna want to get a paper clip bend it like a U then you see where the green wire goes into the plug? Insert 1 end of your U into the green wire slot, and the other into the black wire slot. Turn the power switch on and there you go :). Let me know how it works out.

Hey it was working for a little and then I turned off the psu, when I turned it on the cathodes weren't working. The fan on the psu is still spinning so I presume that it is providing the power but the cathodes arn't illuminating. Are the cathodes bad or is it another mistake on my part?

How did you "turn off the PSU"?

And another thing, you may want to just hook these cold cathodes into your computer and run them outside of the case and make it shine on your desk if you have an above desk set up.
