Comcast HD channels TV Tuner

when I scan the channels it only detects basic cable. I have a coax from the wall to the comcast set top box, then a coax from the set top box to the tuner. If i select set top box during the setup, it scans the channels, but it gets to a point where it says it cannot detect an IR device and I have to cancel the setup. How can I receive all the channels my tv gets into the tuner. Thanks.

You have to use the comcast receiver to change the channels, you can't use the tv to change channels.

Does that mean I am using my comcast remote and aiming it at the comcast set top box? What is the comcast reciever, is that built into the set top box? How do I get my computer to detect it, because i believe this is the only part that is stopping me.

Can you please tell me exactly what you are trying to accomplish? Are you trying to view tv through your computer? Your first post said nothing about a computer involved.
