command in cod4 wont open with the ` button

I am having trouble connecting manually to the cod4 servers useing the command line as it wont open any more. Why has it been disabled or not working?

Go to options > game options and make sure console is enabled

I was getting that about an hour ago, but all better now, I don't know why that was, I guess it wasn't making contact with the master server
