Common Ibook issue with no resolution found

My girlfriend just got a laptop from the school to use for online schooling and it is an iBook 5th gen i think, but am really not sure on that one. I am trying to set it up on my Netgear WGR614v8 router. I cannot get it to connect to my network when i encrypt any kind of security. I have tried all except WEP which I just simply refuse to use as a future solution. The only way I can connect is with no security enabled at all. I have googled multiple times to look for an answer. I found many very similar situations but there was no solution found in any of them. Can anyone help me, I don't know how else to approach this.

Are you sure the key you are using is right? I have spent hours trying to connect to networks only to find that I had typed the security key incorrectly.
