comp not reading graphics card

i had a graphics card put in 2 years ago, and its been working fine. recently though, when i turned my comp and monitor on, nothing came up on the monitor. it just said do a check or somethin. but when i plugged the monitor into the on-board card, it worked. it kept switching, sometimes the graphics card would work, sometimes the on board card would work. now its just the on board card working. how do i get the good graphics card to work again?

if i were you i would check to make sure that your graphics card is inserted correctly and that the contacts aren't dirty. also update your driver. on my friend's computer he has to switch which graphics card he is using in the display properties before he physically plugs his monitor into the other card.
