Ok I don't know if its the hard drive. Read my post in this forum(its still at the bot of the forum page atm), i installed new memory into my computer. Scavenged old DDR ram from bro's comp. I used to have 512mb hynix ddr pc3200 ram, i basically chucked into the spare 2 slots another "1gb kingmax pc3200" , and another (same stickers so i assume its a hynix) "256mb pc3200" ddr ram too.
Anyway dual ddr channel somehow got enabled.. anyway is different capacities/vendors liek that alright? THat's my first question, becuase basically as i write this my comp is pretty much going beserk.. so im wondering if its the new ram.
Secondly i run two hard drives... the first seemed to be going bonkers /images would go all weird and like half of the picture would look like it had a knife run through it.. that half would be discoloured.
So i finally this week chucked in a replacement first hdd.. reinstalled windows. all felt good, but yest i did a copy of my whole pictures folder from my second hdd to test it.. didnt realise until today that some pics(to a lesser extent when i tried this test on the old hdd i replaced) are getting discoloured/weird disfigurations...
So it leads the question: is my hdd screwed. Or is my mobo/some sorta connection screwed? Transferring a big folder of pictures from one hdd to another should never lead to pictures going bonkers like this right? My old hdd i kept running the Western digital lifeguard tool, never had errors come up. Perhaps my hdd wasn't screwed after all??
Another problem: I installed windows onto this first hdd... before when the old first hdd was in, my windows was located on my second hdd. Atm i can open internet explorer and I can assure you it looks different every time.
I'm getting weird things, my little sound icon in the system tray when i click it now gives me "sound hardware error"... ok wait i tried it again and now it can click but it doesnt even give me the error anymore.. nothing happens...
i get disfigured windows everywhere.. if i open task manager sometimes some parts are blank/missing, other tiems it is. I can click stuff on the start bar but not alt tab. pressing explorer shortcut sometimes opens it, sometimes it doesnt until i do some other command such as browse a weblink.
Basically opening/executing everything is going haywire. Msn program opens without the "file, help, tools at the top" sometimes. Is my OS screwed? This is a new hdd so I assume the mobo is screwed, would that lead to the OS being installed dodgily?
IS there any testing tools minus the usual hard drive lifeguard tools to actually test connections/the motherboard?
