I was given a company laptop a while back, they've said i can keep it which is cool so i want to format/wipe/reinstall it etc. But when i start it up it still asking for logon info and my work server to connect to! (Net boot ot something??) Course I'm no longer with this company, and when i try to boot from a boot disk (oh yeh i didnt get a recovery disk either) it gives me the following....

Initializing and Establishing Link...

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

Do i have to change some BIOS settings or something? Im not experienced in these areas lol, all help is much appreciated, until then I cant use the laptop :(. Its running xp pro by the way, Intel

what do i do?????

It looks to me like its trying to boot up off a network drive or a blank hard disk drive, what id do is go into the BIOS and change the boot order to CD/DVD drive, then Hard Disk Drive. :)

Hi, I cant have the combination cdrom drive then HDD ...... but i can have hdd then cdrom, but still im taken straight to the "press ctr alt delete to begin"screen. Its like im locked out from booting the cd rom drive. ?

The cd drive has to be first in the boot order in order to re-install. Or you can hit the key that corresponds for "boot" when the bios page appears. Mine is F3. This lets you manually select which device to boot from on this one occurence. Another words it doesnt change your boot order.

Im still having problems, im trying to boot from an xp pro cd, the cursor thing blinks (_) but nothing else happens then its straight to the xp loading page. Im not sure what the bios page is, is it the toshiba splash screen? Because there is no other screen apart from that and the xp loading screen. I have a toshiba btw, and thanks for the help.

when you see the toshiba boot screen... there should be something written on the bottom left or bottom right that says something along the lines of press F2 to enter BIOS Press F12 to select boot device

I suggest you hit F12 for selecting the boot device then selecting the CD drive with the WinXP disc inside
