came into my shop, I suspect surge. when you turn on goes through start up, the comes up with disk read error occured, ctrl alt delete. I can get into the bios and restored defaults, same problem, I installed a new power supply, same proble, I tried a new hard drive with xp on it, same problem. fans work, lites work. andy answers. cpu or mother board gone???? is there a way to test with out installing new also could some one tell me on this machine what cpu socket it may have???????????????thanks a head of time this is my first question on this forum......:)
 
It may not be "none of the above". Have you tried a different cable for the drive? If a connector lifts up on the board or becomes dried up and stiff especially with ribbon type ide cables you could try a new one or even go with a round cable to see that corrected. With two different drives being tried out on the same cable that's the next thing to try.
