I have a laptop, compaq f755us presario, atleast a few years old, windows vista.never been updated at all.trying to fix for a friend. they tried downloaded norton and couldnt because it kept saying needed to update. did updates half way but couldnt complete because service pack 1? kept messing up during update. they did a chat with norton who took control of computer from their end and (i believe) was able to do complete service pack 1 update. shut off and restarted got nothing. will not restart. they went to trash computer and bought themselves another. I would like to see if this is fixable so I took home to see what I coud do. they did not have any cds with laptop but I have my vista cd that came with my emachine desktop. I tried restarting computer and wont get passed the ...'start normaly or repair'...section. click one of those goes straight to blue screen of death. cant do cd, get blue screen, tried f8, any one of those goes to blue screen! is there any help for this thing? I have gone to msdos mode on other computers and typed in reformat and completely reinstalled o.p. but with this computer I cant even get to msdos. any suggestions?? thanks:confused:

At the top of the blue screen does it say "unmountable boot volume"? If so, then there are errors on the hard drive and can be easily fixed usually.

no, it just says problem has been detected....if this is first time seeing this stop error screen.....then at the end say stop: 0x0000c1f5
