I got this computer from where my dad works for free. it turns on but once it gets to the windows screen it reboots and keeps rebooting over and over. ive tried cleaning all the dust out, putting the ram in a different slot and taking out pci cards and unplugging the optical drives and floppy drives. none of that seemed to help. then i got a old videocard cause it has integrated graphics and put it in and it still does not work. does anybody know whats wrong with it?

here are the specs

i have a 5155, maybe it's overheating? i think mine does the same thing when it overheats, it freezes, then when i hit cntrl>alt>dlt, sometimes, i get a blue screen, soo i have 2 hit the switch, and when i start it back up, it gets 2 the windows screen, the shutsdown, soo it may be overheating, rebooting 2 let you know it's hot ;), also take it out the case and see if the fans working.

i got my compaq out the trash lol, works good, installed 384MB RAM, the power supply was missing, soo i went back 2 where i found it, went through all the junk, and found the power supply :D lol, took it home, put it all back together and fired right up. just need the front bezel, couple clips are broke. it has no case fan :(, couldnt find that over there, no biggy, i could just pick 1 up at RadioShack or somewhere, but 4 the time being, i took the computer out of the case, and have a windows fan, the kind with 2 fans, blowing heat from the HD away, and blowing air on the motherboard, and it runs fine, it used 2 just freeze. soo yeah man make sure everythings runnind properly.

According to the specifications you listed it came with
Windows 98. Does it still have windows 98 installed?

If it does have 98, you need to try to boot into Safe
mode with the F8 key then see if you can get into
windows. If you can then you need to get the
98 Product key. Once you have the product key then
you can look for the installation files and see if you
can reinstall the windows 98.

If it has XP you will still need to try Safe mode but
want have many options to reload the software.
