Compaq Presario 6000 freezing

Everytime I turn on the laptop, everything seems to work good for about 2 minutes sometimes less than the screen freezes with funny colored patterns.
It seems like when it`s I haven`t open the cpu for a long time it takes longer before it freezes but it always end up freezing after a little while so I don`t have time to do much. I have windows vista on a Compaq Presario 6000 refurbished. Can anyone help me out please ?
 
Was Vista installed already or did you do that, also make sure you're fans are actually spinning. I had this problem with my Desktop, where the fan was broken and I didn't realize it so it would just shut off.
