Hey everyone,

I just got a Compaq Presario 700 from a friend for free and he says it doesnt work. So I tried it out and it shows that the power cord is connected but it will not boot and start. It just stays blank and will not show the Compaq screen. I am thinking some may be up with the motherboard but I dont know for sure. If you guys have any tips or ideas on how to repair it I am open for any suggestions. It's not a total loss if I can't start it but I would like to get this started up.

Thanks for your time,
Jeff

try resetting anything there is on the motherboard with jumpers, but if you're still not getting a boot screen, the mobo's bad

Yes, rest the CMOS manually ... also, reduce the hardware to the bare minimums required to boot: CPU, mobo, PSU, ram and VC

isn't that a laptop? so u will probably have to open that thing up.

are you able to get into bios? usually pressing "del" at startup. or nothing at all?
