Compaq Presario F762NF...D drive question

I just have a question about the drives on my new laptop. I know the C drive is the harddrive but there is also a D drive called Presario_RP listed under hard disk drives. The C drive has 72.6 GB free out of 100 and the D drive has only 1.99 GB free out of 11.5. The specs say the computer has a 120GB harddrive. What exactly is the D drive used for? When I open it up it says Recovery under the name. Is this where the computer information is stored in case it crashes and I need to recover the information?
Oh, I also wanted to ask why the screen dims when I unplug the computer from the wall and run off the battery? Is this normal? It seems quite annoying.

The d: is for restore information. If the computer crashes, you can restore it from the d:.

To stop the laptop screen from dimming, open the control panel, control panel home, click mobile pc, click power options, and the one that you are using has the dot in the middle of the circle. Click change plan settings, and where it says adjust display brightness (under battery) drag it to the right.

Got it, thanks! I'm assuming this cuts down on battery time?
Also regarding the D drive, my internet security has an automatic backup of my computer. I can choose where it sends the backedup info. Can I send it to the D drive? Will it then overwrite what is on that drive already or will that info stay there? What about when my internet security does a backup, does it get rid of the old backup info and replace it with the new?

Yes, it will reduce on batter life. With my laptop that I will have for another day (m15x shipped tomorrow), I get bad battery life anyway.

I wouldn't set it to save backups in the d:. That space is for vista backups and system restore only. My laptop only has 300mb's left, and it needs all that space in my opinion.
