comparing P3

which is better a P3 850Mhz 100MhzFBS or a P3 665MHz 133Mhz. the mother boad is 133Mhz bus normaly but will run the 850Mhz P3 fine. i ran a program to generate Pi and the 850 P3 did better. is there a beter way to test the CPU's?

What exactly will you be using this computer for? What are the cache sizes? I would probably go for the 850.

general usage: internet, eamil, word. no games when i leave. i beleve the cache is both 512Kb L2. using a 100mhz fbs cpu wont alter my other clocks like ram?

as for measuring the peformance, the pi score is an ok method, you could look under measuring success in oc101

You can give new life to and old PIII machine installing Xp or the latest Linux, getting 512 Ram, a 7200 hard drive, and, if you have onboard video, a new agp or pci video card...

pentium III is a beast of a cpu. i would go with the 850mhz. at such a low clock, the extra 185 mhz is a lot bigger influence as opposed to going from a 3.2 to a 3.4.

but won't the 850 be slower because it has a 100mhz bus not 133 like the 665. this is not a gaming machinem just basic usage
