Compatibility of this SSD?

Well Its not actualy an SSD and wont give the performance of a "real SSD",Its still a 7200rpm spinning Hard drive,Just with flash memory...however for the price i dont think its a bad deal, and will be faster than a standard 7200Rpm.

But as for your question,Yes you can put a Laptop hard drive in a Desktop :)

A toss up on the Momentus XT. Its faster then a regular harddrive with some applications, but slower then a SSD. You get alot more space for the price compared to a SSD, but it twice the price of a same size regular harddrive.

Toss up if its worth it or not.

if they had anything like ssd performance wouldnt they state the performance of the drive?

read?
write?
seek?

etc etc??

dont bother

it did. says 7200 rpm as mentioned.

still trying to figure out why it claimed it self as ssd though.

because it is a hybrid drive. It has a platter, like and hard drive does, but it has solid state memory, like an SSD does, too, to get the best of both worlds. You get larger storage and better performance at less price than an SSD, but much higher price than a standard HDD.

Basically, it is times like these that the phrase jack of all trades, master of **** all comes into play I think. I agree with BBSK, I would just go for a normal HDD

that review is kinda interesting, it is shown to be faster than normal hard drives and they say if you raid0 2 together they are just as quick as an ssd

so you pay $300 for 2 of these drives ($150 each) raid0 them then you have a 1tb setup that is almost as fast as the nearest priced ssd with 125gb space!

this is according to the review not my own findings, how acurate they are is a different matter

obviously once the prices start to drop for ssd's this will change my opinion.

Pretty much agree with that. The price of them is a standoff. If they priced them at around 90/100 bucks for 500GB. They would probably be alot better compromise.

Problem is, that performance is only for small read/writes, it only has 4gb of flash memory onboard. Which, i haven't especially read into these drives, but it seems as if its using it as some type of buffer.

yeh but isnt the small read/writes what is performed most on a hard drive?

how often does the average user write large files?

Depends on the use of the drive, but small read/writes would probably be the most common, however if it is being used as a buffer, sustained small read/writes are gonna slow it down. In any case i'd still just say wait until NAND flash becomes more affordable...

yeh i see where your going...

its just something between a standard hard drive and a ssd, and for me i hope that it is a good performing drive for price reasons (anything to push ssd prices down dam it)
