The Intel 845 chipset cannot and will not support the Core 2 Duo's because of it's age, some 945 chipset boards support it and the 965P/G and the 975 chipsets all support the full line. The Pentium D's can run off anything above a 945 chipset.
Look at the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 for a good Core 2 Duo board.
