Compatible

Im intrested in building a PC myself, by the looks of things that would be handy for gaming, can anyone confirm (hopefully someone in the UK) if them parts are available in the UK at them prices and what other costs to consider.

thanks
Mike

^^ cool i gathered that, but to me there should be somemore costs involed. Can anyone detail any essentails/good_extras worth getting to make a full PC?

Mike

dippy,
a) Why are you getting a skt478 pentium 4 prescott. The 478 prescott has heat issues, and the 478 is not the latest socket. May be a better idea to consider lga775, mainly since the 775 prescott has less heat issue, but also the 775 will give you more upgrade options (albeit probably only 6months to a years worth)
b) Why are you getting SATA II for a motherboard that only supports SATA150, get a board the support SATA II if you want the best out of your SpinPoint
c) Maybe you should consider getting a 6800GT with the pci-e interface rather than agp, since again this wil give you more upgrade options in the future. (in this case you will need to pick up a pci-e mobo)
d) Rather than 1gb stick of ram, pick up 2 x 512mb sticks, that way you can dual-channel them. Its not a huge performance boost but it helps and is certainly worth doing (may even save you a few dollars)
e) You should consider upgrading the psu that comes with the case as it will be crap. Take a look at psu 101

oh and the cpu cooler you choice is not the greatest - but that's a minor gripe.

everything is compatible, but maybe just a few tweaks to get the best out of your cash

I understand what you are saying apj, but I have already placed the order and has been shipped. In regards to the 478 socket I have never had any heat problems that i have noticed. Also the SATA im not very well educated on it it will still performe well on the motherboard i purchased correct? Other then that I believe it will eb a pretty powerfull machine.

I most likely will overclock, the only changes I will be making is 2x512, lga775, and new processor because of socket, also new mobo.

Thanks apj, but am i missing something im looking for a processor intel socket lga 775 thats 3.0. What would that processor be i dont see any speeds.

the j on the end means the cpu has execute bit disabled. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory by where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation. To provide end-to-end no execute (NX) coverage, Intel offers Execute Disable Bit for workstations, servers, desktop PCs and Notebook PCs.
It wont make much difference for you which you get

whats the PSU in that thing? :)

for a bit more and/or a bit less you can get better :) have a look at CD/DVD 101.

While ive not personally dealt witht hat cooler, you may want to consider a beefier one still ... Prescott478s can get really hot :)

Other then that I believe it will eb a pretty powerfull machine.
Yeah it's certainly no sissy box :)

I agree with apj about the pcie, because agp going to turn into the new pci soon.
Well AGP has always been a PCI derivative ....
