Compression

i have a google video file that's 0.98 GB that i downloaded on my computer and i want to put on a CD, so i compressed it and it only went to 995 MB. That's it? it can't get less then that? That's only about 20 MB less than it was originaly!

It depends on the format of the video, since formats such as .mpg are already extremely compressed, which is why you can fit whole videos at great quality on a CD. I believe formats such as .avi and .wmv still have a high compression ratio, but arent as high as mpg.

So instead of compressing it using a program such as winzip (if thats what your using), try getting a video converter that can convert it to .mpg (if it isnt already).

it's a .gvi file (google video file).

since formats such as .mpg are already extremely compressed,

does that mean that it's a lower quality than say a .gvi file?

I dont know any of the specs of a .gvi, but mpg isnt necessarily lower quality, but when you compare a 500MB mpg and "gvi", the 500MB mpg file would look alot better, since it's compression ratio is much greater then that of a gvi.
