My pc is in a bad way. I want to rebuild the bad parts but not buy a whole new system. Here is what I have;
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe mother board.
AMD 64x2 Dual Core 3800= 2.01 ghz processor.
Gigabyte Geoforce 6800GS video card.
3 gig of Corsair 3200 memory.
450 watt power supply.

The system worked for a year and a half then I clicked on a pop up for a Java update. The anti virus alarms went off and I pulled the power cord to the modem immediately. I let the anti virus run and the report stated that the virus was partially removed. I tried every type of virus removal and no luck. I experienced every type of failure and crash. So, I reformatted the hard drive, re installed the operating system four times because every time I would only get so far and it would die. It is up and running but will not allow me to update anything and just shuts down whenever it wants to.

Question is; what do I start replacing first? It has been brought to my attention that the mother board may have the virus.

"It would die" Please elaborate... Would you get an error, the machine shut off, black screen(machine still running) Exactly what point would it die?

It could really be many things; failing hard drive, bad RAM, failing motherboard, failing GPU...

System would shut down then restart. After it restarted an error message pops up stating the the system has recovered from a serious error. It shuts down at different times. Sometimes immediately after start up. Sometimes while sitting unused. Hard drive went back to Seagate before reinstalling operating system.
