Compter reboots on it's own??

Hello everyone -

Here's my problem. I play EverQuest, and I know I don't have the best computer for it. I'm currently using a Compaq SR1010Z computer, and I've installed a GeForce4 MX440 128mb video card into it. Trouble is, whenever I'm on my computer, it will randomly restart/reboot my computer! It's crazy, but I can't think of what's causing it or why.

Should anyone have any information for me as to how I can fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

two things to check for first would be that you have a power supply that is able to give adequete power to all your devices, and second check to see what the tempreture is in ure case. lack of power, and heat can cause random reboots.

PSU, RAM, Viruses, Spyware/adware are most common problems (when restarts randomly occur). Check the PSU amperage on the +12V line and see if it's more than 26A. If not there might be your problem, PSU's get old and die. Run a program called Memtest86 (www.memtest86.com) and see if it returns any errors on the memory. If so, there's your problem. Mind you it could be a conjunction of both or many.

Well, I looked inside my computer and checked out the +12V and it shows that it runs at 19A ... crap. I guess I need a better power supply?

well this narrows down the specs a bit but it would help if you could pin them down more

two things to look for
1. CPU temperature
2. voltage stability
you can use speedfan to monitor both (see QUESTIONS 101 for a link).
