Hi, my computer is always hang up (i.e. can't do anything, both keyboard and mouse no response) when it gets online (usually after a few minutes).

I have changed the LAN card to test and it was the same.

The most important thing is that when the computer gets online and I leave the computer and do nothing, then it is ok.

Just when I start using the IE to browse web page...it hangs (and usually happen when it is OPENING the web page).

P.S. the computer works fine when it DOES NOT get online.

I have tried the following and it still hangs up when gets online:

a) Change the power supply to test...no use
b) Change the LAN card to test...no use
c) Change the LAN card to different PCI slot to test...no use
d) Update the motherboard ROM (i think that is BIOS update)
e) Update the display driver...no use
f) Take the computer to my friend's home and use his ISP to get online...no use
e) Change the keyboard and mouse...no use

P.S. I have not changed the RAM to test because I have no spare one...but I am sure would it be the problem cause?

Could anyone please tell me what problems might be?

Sounds like a spyware/virus problem really, not a hardware issue.

What antivirus software do you currently use? I would suggest downloading "SpyBot Search & Destroy" and scanning with that. Also get "HijackThis" scan, and make a thread here in the computer virus protection section ( i think thats what it's called.)

Possibly a NIC driver issue? More than likely spyware or such but there is a slight chance of it being a driver issue.

I have re-installed the win xp and the computer still hang up very often. However, after I removed the computer case the fequency of hang up reduced a lot...let say it hangs every few hours (before it hangs every 15mins)

So, would it be the chance that the CPU is overheat? but the heatsink is clean and without dust!!!

could be heat related.

can you tell how hot the CPU is getting? I know mine is clean and shiny too but since im running fanless it can still get in the 50C's on a hot day.

"speedfan" is something you could download to try and tell your CPU temperature and other temps.

its odd tho that you can do other things and it works fine, but when u start to pass network traffic it locks up. might not be heat is what im trying to say. . .

have you overclocked at all because if you havent loked the PCI bridge then it may be freezing out the whole PCI bus when too much info is trying to get through at a too high speed. This is what happened when i overclocked, it froze my wireless network card out.

I have not overclocked anything on my computer as I dont know how to do it anyway

I got in the BIOS setting and load the default setting so the overclocking should not be the issue right??

Thanks

try pinging something, checking ure email, playing an online game, anything that would use ure internet connection, but not involve viewing a webpage. if that still works, than there is something wrong with IE. try firefox, in fact, migrate to firefox anyway!

you can also try opening My Computer, then putting a URL in the address bar, see if that loads it.

while not online, can u open IE? if you can, then reset web settings via the tools menu.

if you can isolate it to IE, then try running sfc /purgecache, then sfc /scannow, if you insist on using IE ;)
