has any1 actaully replaced the lithuim battery (round battery) on the motherboard before? also wot does it do, y do we need it?

why do you think your clock is still accurate after unplugging the computer for a while? ;)

The RTC chip contains 64 (or more) bytes of ram. The clock uses 10 bytes of this space, leaving 54 bytes for other purposes. The BIOS stores all sorts of information in the CMOS RAM area, like the number of floppy and hard disk drives, the hard disk drive type, etc. If the CMOS RAM loses power, the computer may not know anything about the hard disk configuration of your machine, and therefore it cannot boot.

A few computers, from what I've heard, won't even POST without the battery... I don't mean because it can't find the drives, I mean like a blank screen... They work fine when a good one is installed. Kind of weird, eh?

I have to agree with 'The_Other_One'

I've seen machines not get past the BIOS screen if there is no BIOS battery in place.

so how oftern shud u replace the lithium battery and how wud a notice?- the time wud b wrong everything time i start the comp???

thnks

well, not really. If you switch it off by the switch on the PSU then yes maybe. Things like it might start loosing your HDD configuration, like switching back to BIOS defaults.

the battery is recharging almost all the time ;) you wont have to replace it usually
as long as the swich of the PSU is turned on, the battery is charging :)
