Sometimes my computer starts to beep, i dont know what it means, why its caused and what i can do to stop.

Can any1 help me out?

A bit more info as always is helpfull :-).. Does it beep continues until you reboot? what do you do with your computer b4 it starts to beep (if anything)?, Will it just start beeping right after startup? or is it beeping durring post?

Does it beep when Dinner is ready? because if it does then that's just cool :-).

What kind of beeps are these? (long, short etc). Also helps to know the hardware involved

the beeps are pretty short and they happen just when im using my computer like i normally would. i hav programs loaded like flash fxp, msn, firefox and winamp

Heres everything i know about my computer:

System:

Microsoft Windows XP Proffesinol Version 2002

Computer:

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+
1.84 Ghz
256 MB of Ram

Hard to tell wether you meant you'd have all these programs opened at once in your example :-) If so then purhaps your just stressing your system a bit. Also for your system I would recommend 512mb's of ram because I think that 256 is bare requirements for the os and the applications you are trying to run.

Still strange that your system beeps without error message popups which tells me it's all hardware related so purhapes you should check er all over to make sure all is plugged in and seated correctly although I doubt very much that would be the problem or else you'd most likely have larger problems then just beeps ;-).

It really depends on where you purchase it I suppose but check local computer shops. I'm in Canada myself and could only quote Canadian Prices from the top of my head but I can find a stick in a local shope for around $45 Canadian dollers (depending on Manufacturer)

Edit:

Try to pair up the sticks the best you can. And although I dunno if this would fix your beeping problems and probably wont I just suggested the upgrade as You really need at least 512mb's for the things your using your machine for.

The writing on the heatspreader seems like an addon job:

the cl2. 5 is good for the price you're paying although pc2100 is a bit old. I dont recognize the hologram though

do you mean that it beeps when you turn the computer on, if it does, thats normal and it should beep. If it beeps when your in the middle of using it, then maybe your dektop thinks its a laptop running out of power :P lol, i wouldnt know why it would beep besides when u turn it on.

How can i find out if my motherboard can support this?

are you referring to the memory? If so, then you should try to look in your computer manual, or try the manufacturers website and see if it tells you there.

How old is your mb? if its less then a year old, it should support a gig, but im not sure. (my 3 year old comp supports about 768mb ram)

As Geoff5093 said you can start by looking in the manual but it may just be as easy to take the side off of your case and have a look at it. It should be with luck writting right on the stick of memory that is in your system already. The manual will tell you the different memory speeds it's compatible with but it's not going to tell you what you actualy have installed of course ;-) but since you've gotten it built by someone it's very possible that it's written on some documention that you recieved when you recieved the machine. Anyhow rip er open if in doubt and check out the stick that's already installed.

Mebe it's over heating

Your computer may be over heating! If this is so get a better cooling unit. If you want to check the temp get a utility from the board vender.
