am building a new computer with these specs-

amd x2 5000 black edition
gigabyte 690g micro atx motherboard
4gb of gskill RAM
Hypertx2 cooler
Earthwatts 500W
antec 900

I plugged everything in properley, checked and double checked that everything was connected to the right place in the right way, and made sure everything was secured properly. Finaly I turned it on ( with the front power swicth) and nothing happened and the fans did not start. I repeatedly tried to find the issue but every thing seemed in place.

I know one of the parts is not functioning properly and my main question is how to find out witch one.I would have tried testing the parts on a diffrent computer... but all my other comps are intel... I am hoping that the power supply is the part not working, because it is one of the cheap parts, but im convinced its the motherboard..Plese Help?!?!? :)

No power at all, you did put all the standoff under the board in the right places and not put a standoff where there is no hole in the board. And you sure you pluged in the case Power switch to the right pins. Plus you didnt get into a hurry and not plug the P/S 24 pin power and 4/8 pin CPU power connector in.

As i said before, i checked and double checksd that everything was plugged in corectly and in the right place and it still wont work

Dont guess you have another computer to try the P/S on. You can jump off a power supply to test it. Get a paper clip and bend it in a U, on the 24 pin power connector with the P/S off and unpluged, plug one end in the end of the green wire and the other to any black wire. Without the paperclip touching anything turn the P/S on and see if it fires up. This doesnt test a load on it but atleast you know it will turn on.

DUDE YOU ARE A GENIUSS!!!! THANK YOU!!!

my power supply powerd up so i know it is a nother part that is not working... thanks a lot for your help !

To test your Power switch plug back in the 24 and 4/8 pin power connectors to the board with P/S off and unpluged, unplug your power switch lead from your case from the motherboard it says most of the time PWR/SW- Get a jumper like comes on harddrives and put it on the pins for the PWR/SW on the motherboard. Plug the P/S back in and flip the switch on the back of the P/S and see if it boots up.

Actually, that doesn't tell you much. It tells you it turns on, but it doesn't tell you whether both 5 and 12v are working. I've seen that happen countless times. Also, check the motherboard and make sure the BIOS reset jumper isn't in the wrong position. Make sure that you have the additional 12 v plugged in near the CPU. Then make sure that you took all the protective coatings off the CPU and HSF.

Thats true plus it doesnt test any kind of load on it either. Just a wild guess but I would say theres a chance he just has the PWR/SW pluged into the wrong pins. But anything is possible, bad P/S, board, case Power switch. Dead in the water.

will that make sure that he is not connecting the pwr sw in the wrong place?
I am drummeralec's friend helping him with his comp by the way ;).

When i had this problem..it ended up being one of the standoffs touching the motherboard where it shouldn't...are you positive that there isn't something acting as a ground?

okay, I am sure we plugged in the 4pin connector, we took off the coatings (there wern't any).

And about the power supply, I might try his power supply in my custom built comp to make sure it is working.

That test is to bypass the power switch on the case, if it fires up it means the case power switch is bad. To your question about the wrong pins, sometimes people will plug the case power switch by mistake to the wrong pins on the board, like to the reset/SW or the PWR/LCD and the board wont fire up

YEA!!!

thank you all for your support... but i got it working..

turns out it was one of those stupid human moments.

It was tha standoffs for the mother board. it was shorting out because the standoffs were not in the right place. i have the antec 900 case witch was built for ATX motherboard, but i was using a MICRO ATX motherboard, so the standofs were not directly in the right place and it was somthing i locked over when trying to build it in a short time period.... THANKS ANYWAY!!!

P.S. does thermal grease really matter? i have some and have ben using it, but really, what does it do?

I figured it would be the stand offs...i had the same issue when i built my PC. And thermal paste does matter, it helps with the heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink. The stock thermal pad that comes with the cpu cooler should be sufficient though, unless you plan on ocing, then i guess you can remove it and add your own.

Yeap, what was my first question in post 2. As far as compond if your not overclocking the stock stuff will work fine.

Thermal compound/paste/grease basically fills up the spaces left in between the heatsink and the CPU... not everything is flat...
