im building a computer for a friend. i ordered a gigabyte mainboard a GA-78LMT-S2 model board from newegg, i also ordered 4GB of DDR3. my question is, i have an AMD athlon X2 6000 processor that i am going to give him will it work. i am going to give him this processor since he is only going to use the computer for surfing the web and playing movies, this is not going to be a gaming rig. i was under the impression that an AM3+ board will accept AM3+ processors, AM3 processors, and AM2 processors. am i correct in this assumption? i was fairly certain that this is the way that AMD does their processors that all AM3+ boards will accept anything backwards up to AM2. the dual core chip that i have for him is more an adequate for the intended use. am i going to have a problem or will this older processor work just fine in this newer board, it is more then enough processor for him and he can upgrade in the future if he chooses to do so.
