computer courses>career

hello folks!

I was wondering i'm not really keen on my current job and was thinking of a change to a career in computers.

What i would like to know is what you people recommend? Are these learn form home courses any good or would you recommend going to college etc..

what qualificactions would you recommend are worth while and have a future, i was think of taking a home learning course on microsoft MCSA/MSCE is that something i can benfit from or would i be wasting my time/money. The website i viewed says this is a internationaly recognised qualification and has high career opportunities, but i guess i'm after some impartial advice as where money is concerend anyone can talk bullshit :)


For the record i have basic computer knowledge, i have owned a home computer for 5 years and know bits and peices, but i'm a good learner and i'm simply after something with good career prospects and decent salary. I am will to learn other 12 months whilst keeping my currnet job.

I recommend that you do go to college [we people in australia call it university]
Thereforeyou can get a degree and get a chance to work with microsoft or ibm :)
 
ms certs are very common, you'd be better off getting cisco or linux certs, and a BS as well.
 
Hi again!

Firstly thanks to all who have replied! I think im gonna start with a MCSE training course which i can do online, I only have to take time out from work for the exam. I wish i could go to college or university but i have commitments which require me to have a full time job so im gonna have to learn in my own time as best i can. This may sound pretty dumb but what a BS? :confused: I think after i have (hopefully) passed the MCSE training i will move on from there and gain other qualifications and then hopefully move into an I.T. career.

From what i can tell the MCSE isnt tricky to pass providing you put the effort in which isnt a problem for me, but as byteman suggested its pretty common but i guess widely recognised and perhaps a good place to start as far a learning is concerned.

you can do part time courses, and can take degree from home. In the UK we call it the open university, i'm sure you have something similar. Or you could apply to do a correspondence course with some uni (college)
