Computer for Film editing, 3d Rendering.

hi

I posted while ago here, was looking for help on the parts deciding. i got bretty good suggestions on what parts to buy(thanks for those), i needed a computer for 3d animating and film rendering but i had then about 700$ to spend. But then another thing came between and i had to do a lot of research on camcorders, i finaly decided that i go with Sony HDR-HC1 (high definiton! :) ). Now i'm back to the computer issue again. But this time i decided push the price limit forward, i decided to spend around 1500 dollars for the computer only(without screen keyboard etc).

But still i am damn noob on picking the right hardware, i hate that. I have not very much clue what type of ram and cpu i should get and motherboard, i read the 101 so I guess Intel is better? as i heard AMD is for gamers more?
I dont need at all for gaming, best thing for me is to get the render times as low as possible. Then first i'd think i need at least 2gb rams but then theres so many different types of rams, DDR DDR2 DR400 etc..and i guess motherboard thats stable enough, but what model exactly XD. Any help would be apreciated, it took me about 2 months to do research on camcorders XD, but it came useful anyways.

Are here any other 3d rendering, film editing guys in this forum, to get a idea what i need, or anybody bored and want me help  ?

Thanks, lookfilms

Can you wait for another 6-7 months? Intel's new CPU, conroe, is looking to be a killer CPU, beating AMD. If you can't wait, get one of the AMD X2 line.

Duel core or duel processors usally help in the rendering process, but it also depends on the software(if it utilizes both cores or not...)

If you wait much long, about any machine you will purchase will be DDR2. Now, it's basically Intel's DDR2, and AMD's DDR. Intel does typically do better with rendering and such, but AMD's right behind. AMD does, however, do better with gamming.

Video card actually won't matter too much with such a machine. Much of the pressure is on the processor rather than the graphics card. So really, unless you wish to game, even a rather basic card such as the 6200 would do just fine.

yes i did hear about conroe, unfortunately i cant wait, i have a lot of work to do, project i'm working on needs to be done by september so i have like 6 months to work on the vfx :( .
and yes i dont need fancy graphic card, so i rather buy a better ram memory or cpu from the money i could save from fancy video card. I definitly not going to play games, maybe once in a while but its not the purpose. Mainly i need rendering to be faster  . Those 10 millions of particles take renderings veeery slow . And for software i use after effects and 3d studio max, i think they work well with every computer, and i'm gonna use windows, dont wanna mesh with linux, not yet at least.
Anyways so for ram i should if for Intel then DDR2-s and if AMD then for just DDR-s? Um and basicaly Intel and AMD both have some powerful ones?
Howabout motherboard?

EDIT:
what about this one -> AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4800CDBOX - Retail

Because we all know that AMD is going to sit around and not develop any new products.....

Anything worth your time (animation-wise) will be SMT/SMP capable
