computer for photography/Photoshop

My main use of the computer is for making exhibition quality photographs. I have a Dell Optiplex GX 280 , 2.99 GHz, 2 gigs of RAM, and a DVD-CD read/write optical drive. However, the hard drive is only 40 gigabytes which is not nearly enough these days, and the machine has developed a neurotic, unreliable personality. Should I go for a new version of the same computer, with a larger hard drive? or? All suggestions (other than switching to a Mac) will be appreciated, including info on staying with Windows XP Pro vs transitioning to Vista.
Thanks,
margery

What problems are you having with your system? What do you mean by your system developing a neurotic, unreliable personality?

Considering that system was meant as a business system and not for what you use it for, It does not surprise me you are having problems.

Would/can you consider building your own? You will save a bit of $ and it would run better in the long run.

Photoshop is a very ram hungry program, and with the new 10,000 rpm hard drives you can get it to run much faster than with your old pentium M system.
