computer freezes

it seems like only when I am using the net that my computer freezes and I cannot login to msn messenger, I think my internet card needs replacing, what do you think

Which browser are you using? I use IE and my fix usually is first to go into Tools>Internet Options and delete cookies, delete files (including the offline files), and clear history. I also do a "disk cleanup" and defragment the hard drive if necessary. All this followed by a computer restart usually works for me. If not, I'd disable firewalls and begin to investigate the integrity of the internet connection.

I did a spyware test, virus test, defragemented my computer yesterday before I posted, will try the other advise you posted today but don't think it's the firewall, it's been working well for years. thanks.
