Computer freezing at shutdown

Anytime I shut down my computer I get tons of errors and when I get to the windows is shutting down please wait screen it freezes. I am running windows XP Can you please help me fix this? I went to windows site and downloaded a recommended patch and it didn't work.

try this go to start->run->type in "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes) and hit enter it should open something up that will scan and replace the missing files
