Computer freezing constantly with fresh OS install

Hi, my computer is constantly freezing on and off. It can't even copy a single file without freezing once. I know it can't be a virus because I just made a fresh install and there is no internet connection on that computer.

Here are the specs:
MSI P6NGM motherboard
3 hard drives: 1 is SATA and the other two are IDE with a converter to SATA
Geforce 8400 GS video card (with 2 monitors hooked up)
Soundblaster X-FI sound card
Quad core 2 processor @ 2.4 Ghz

I'm running windows XP service pack 3.
This thing is so slow I can't even install a tiny driver for my sound card and installing the driver for the graphics card took 20 minutes!

Any ideas what's causing this?

I second the heat issue. Check all fans to ensure they spin etc. If not, then maybe just try a new install of windows, could be a borked installation. Not like you're losing any data from it. Try disconnecting your extra drives at boot too. Maybe the older drives are causing the issue.
