Computer freezing up.

My computer is acting very strange. When I try to navigate in IE7 sometimes on different sites it takes forever to go to a new page. The little wheel on the current tab just sits there and spins and goes nowhere. I click the home icon and go right away. If I close my browser and re-open and go to the same site if might work just fine, but then it freezes again. I've ran scans with avast, spybot, adaware, and spysweeper they all find nothing. This happens on different web sites at different times. Here's a HJT log to hopefully find the problem, Thanks.

I've run into this quite often on totally clean systems. I suspect it's mainly due to the new higher security defaults seen in IE 7. Yet Firefox when tested at the same time while also drag. One look at the log right off shows a mix of Avast, Zone Alarm, Trend Micro's activex scan agent, AVG, Spybot S&D, Webroot's Spysweeper, and Kaspersky?

Besides heavy traffic on your ISP's home server slowing things down at times too much running will see sofware conflcts as well. The Yahoo toolbar won't help you any by opening doors up for adwares and whatever. And to top things off about a software problem you also have McAfee. Your main problem seems to be trying to run too much all at the same time.

OK, while trying to respond here, my computer was freezing up again, and out of nowhere just re-booted by itself. After re-start things seem to work a little better, but who knows. What would cause my computer to re-start like this? I reached behind it to feel the fan in the back and can feel air coming out that doesn't feel very hot. What's going on??? The Macafee program thats running is their siteadvisor. I do have 56 processes running. How can I cut some of these down? I would trim things up a bit, but don't know where to start. I've had IE7 for about 2 months now without any problems like this. Of the things mentioned before (Avast, Zone Alarm, Trend Micro's activex scan agent, AVG, Spybot S&D, Webroot's Spysweeper, and Kaspersky) the only ones that are being used are avast, ZA, spybot SD for tea timer, and spysweeper. The other ones are online scanners and I use AVG to scan infrequently. While submitting reply just now, the computer is freezing up again.

You may be going online to use scanners there but you still have items found in the system registry loading at boot time along With Windows. The msconfig utility is the tool found in Windows for choosing the selective startup option. You first type msconfig on the Run prompt off of the Start menu and press enter or click the ok button to see that screen open up.

Once you have this done you go to the last two tabs on the right side. The startup group and services tabs will both have to be looked into since AVG and others have items in the services section. There you should put a check mark in the "hide all microsoft services" box to avoid unchecking any essentials needed for Windows to run. A good number of background services are listed there.

The startup will see video, sound, and mouse software items along AVG, Kaspersky, Avast, Spybot S&D, ZA, and you name it. Once you have looked through both areas and have unchecked the different items you simply click the apply button when leaving each area. Once you exit the msconfig you then have to choose whether to reboot right away to see the changes applied or wait until later. Upon restarting the system another small message screen will appear needing a check mark in the "don't show this again" box. (That a typical Microsoft annoyance there. )

You won't want to uncheck any items for your mouse. With MS models that would be the pointer32.exe or similar file there. Your focus should be on those things that can be started up manually at any time. There's no exception for antivirus or firewalls since you don't know which one is the problem if one of those is at fault. It does suggest a software conflict.

One idea would be to disable all of these to see if the problems remain. If everything returns to normal you then know one of those is in conflict. While you have those disabled you can also run a free registry cleaner to remove any lingering items in there trying to load now useless drivers. http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html

Besides a software conflict have you monitored your system temps in the event you are seeing an overheating problem like cpu, board, memory? SpeedFan generally works well for most systems and is free at http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php I started running into freeze ups and sudden restarts on the lasy build when the fan on the cpu cooler simply quit! The high 74C temos soon saw the 85C max on the cpu there. So don't a temp problem out.

I have and already ran Registry Mechanic 5.2, didn't seem to help. As far as temp problems I just started my computer and it's still doing it. I'm going to try disabling some things to see what happens.

The idea was to first disable items and then proceed with a registry cleaner to see if any loose entires were loading things no longer installed. But the main problem there iis clearly the large volume of things competing with each other. This is what happens too often when trying to run too many of the same type of program like antivirus in particular. Generally you have to totally remove one when going to install another.
