hi i have a 3.40 GHZ computer with a 1gb ram and i want to put computer games on it but my mom and dad wont let me because they think it will break the computer, Do computer games Break computers? or are they just being retarted? thanks

Computer games definetly wont break the computer... I think they might be thinking about online games that can install malware on your comp.

Computer games don't break computers. The computer will only "break" while playing a game if you overclock it or do something else that would be categorized as "abnormal" use. An average everday computer will have no technical problems wjhile playing a game. If your computer is slow, framerates might suck but thats about it. The only game that I know of that has actually been the one to cause a crash is Battlefield 2 because it was programmed in a rush to get it out....IMO. Other than that, your game should run good. If your computer is OEM (bought form a manufacturer such as Dell, Compaq...etc) then there shouldn't be a heat issue. Your parents are just paranoid about the computer. Many older folks are because they don't fully understand how a computer works and have probably heard of stories about weird computer crashes. Just tell them that it will be fine.

Dude thats messed up. Its one thing for someone to make a joke aobut there parents, but for some one to make a joke about someone elses parents is not ok.

Anyways, games are fine on PC's. They dont break them:P

People, People, People.....

Computer games can break computers.

I've had it happen. I installed Tribes Vengance on my pc about 8 months ago, and while playing the CD shattered in the Drive. The CDROM blew, and most of the components on the motherboard overloaded and blew as well.

Took about a month to get the stench out of the house.

So you see, computer cames can break the computer when something bad happens, and things get a huge power surge.

Regards,
Andrew.

Did you by chance alter the rpm ranges your cd drive uses? Or plant a bomb in your comp? I would have a hard time beleiving this as i have spun a cd up to 10,000 rpm before it blew.

I thought it was funny. . .

No computer games will not break the computer, unless you get pissed cause you know you got a headshot in CS:S and it didn't register and you throw your monitors out the window and burry your mouse in the wall. Then it could be a problem.

There is no possible way for a CD to shatter in a drive at normal speeds, they even did a mythbuster test on this and they got it at 10K RPMS or something and it didnt even break. And the fact is, if thats true then its nothing with computer games, it's with any cd.

It could happen if the cd was already cracked, but very unlikely

I know about this from expierence ( 3 Keyboards , 2 mice, and 1 closet door )

I've actually had a CD crack in the CD drive while I was installing a game. Didn't shatter but it had a nice long crack that went from the middle to the outer edge of the cd... the disc was unusable after that.
