Hey all!

This is my first post here, so first off, hello! I'm kind of just getting back in to building computers, as I've been using mostly consoles and prebuilt computers as of late...kind of missed it a lot though so thought I would give a crack at building my own again for the ultimate customizability and savings. I was hoping this would be a good base for playing pretty much any game out there, and then adding another radeon to do crossfire in a few months. Let me know if I could do better with anything else, alwaysused amds in the past and seems like the new 8 cores are a good value. I'll list the build below, and thanks in advance!

Mobo - ASus sabertooth 990fx
Processor - amd fx-8120
Case - nzxt phantom full tower
Psu - ultra x4 750 watt modular
Gpu - Xfx radeon hd690x
Hd - kinsington hyperx 128gb ssd
Ram - corsair vengeance 1600mhz 16gb
CPU fan - cooler master v6 gt
Sound card - sound blaster xfi Xtreme
Windows 64bit home edition
Optical - msi Dh24

I'll throw on another hd that's mechanical as well, soon

You'll want PSU from a reliable brand such as Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, PC Power and Cooling, and XFX. (I might have forgotten a few brands).

What GPU exactly are you looking at? HD 690X is nothing I've ever heard of.
 
Do you think the 650 watt psu has enough juice to power an extra 7850 later down the road though? I see thAt it uses nearly 220watts under load singularly and adding another gpu and everything else going on, seems close! I'm not sure if it's being slightly over built, but I always tried in the past, to make it to where upgradability was as easy as can be.

EDIT: also, now having read more, it almost seems advisable to get the Phenom chip over the zambiezi. Seems like it benchmarks higher with games by a decent margin and is about 50 dollars less. I could always get the same mobo since it's backwards compatiable and get the next round of am3+ chips anyway, right?

Gonna disagree there. 78xx cards are plagued with driver failures at this point, they're prone to all kinds of graphical glitches like flickering, artifacting, and crashing. I would really avoid the chipset unless you have no plans of overclocking, and are going to use the cd drivers(12.3). Even then it's luck of the draw. It is a very capable card, but needs driver revisions from AMD before it's a safe bet and a card you can trust.

In that case then go for a GTX 560 Ti or a 570, or wait for the 660/660 Ti come out. The 7850 is miles faster than a 560 Ti though and it performs about the same as a 570. Sometimes the 7850 is faster, sometimes the 570 is faster.

Not heard about these faults with the 7850 before though. I've not really read into them though.

As far as benchmarks go, the FX-4100 will oc a full 1ghz on the stock cooler.
Not saying to get it or do that. Most comparisome benckmarks don't take into consideration that all FX are unlocked for overclocking.
