Computer Is Doing My Head In - Help

I left a comment on here regarding a recent mcafee update that had problems and buggered up alot of computers. So I just uninstalled McAfee.

Anyways, here is the problems;

  1. I can't do a 'chkdsk /r' as it comes up saying;
'The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems'

  1. I can't run Malwarebytes as it says;
"Runtime error 372: "Failed to load control vbalgrid from vbalsgrid6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid may be outdated"
​
  1. There isn't much programs opening when I click them (inc; Internet)
  1. With the programs that do open, they don't appear on the task bar
  1. I can't drag any files on the computer
  1. I can't copy and paste files
  1. There is not sound coming from the computer now
  1. I can't do a system restore as it says it can't be run
  1. I tried to install windows again over the top so it had my files still, but when I get to the press enter to begin install windows, it comes up with the blue screen saying;
"STOP: 0X0000008E"

Can anyone help with any ideas what to do?

Boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking and see if you are able to back up your needed files.

Then boot with your Windows CD and perform a format and full installation.
 
I`d say just boot into safe mode(holde F8 just after the loading first load up screen) and then do a system restore.
 
Yeh I know how to do a format and installation, but I have a 500 gig hard drive and theres about 380gb on it, so don't fancy spending days upon days backing it all up.

Just wondered if there was a way to fix it?
 
I ran the rkill, tried running malwarebytes again, but still the message popping up saying;

I ran CCleaner fine and cleared everything.

You have got a lot of file missing entries there. not good. McAfee has genuinely rooted your installation. Try running a repair install with a windows cd so it can replace the missing files.

that's your best bet if you don't want to lose everything. However if mcafee nuked some of your programs' files then you'll have to reinstall them.
 
i would personally get myself another hardrive and save all your files on this troublesome hard drive that you need to that, and do a full format and reload windows back on. and you can get yourself a hard drive caddy to do this with firewire.

or you can repair the you windows ersion by booting from disc and keep looking at the bottom in the ble section when it asks for you to repair windows or other. get a new internal hdd lets say about 80gb for about #30 take the 500gb one out, do windows install onthe 80gb, now you can you can insert the other one back as a slave drive keeping the 80gb as the master and thn bobs your uncle

I just tried to do a repair install by continueing at the installation menu from booting from the XP disk, however.....

I pressed F8 to accept the terms and it came up with a few lines saying no hard drive so I pressed create new windows installation and the blue screen of death popped up with the error "0X000008E"

Does this mean it is dieing? as I can still get on the computer by booting it up.

Well I went and bought a new Sata Hard Drive and went to install windows media centre as normal on it and it comes up with the blue screen again "0x000000E" if someone can help me with whats causing this then that would be great.

Most likely you need to go into the bios and change the sata controller setting to native IDE or IDE from ahci or raid and then try installing windows. If there is no such setting then you will have to slipstream the sata controller driver into a new install cd.
