Hey Guys, i just got through building a system, and it is opening programs very slow, i have intel quad core 2.8 on a asus p5q pro turbo motherboard, 8 gig of ddr2 800 mh , raptor hardrive with all my programs on, a wd 500 gig hardrive with misc files and a segate 1 tb with video files only, I have a nvidia 260GTX video card. I through a lot of money at this, and it should be running a lot faster then it is, didnt know if it could be bios settings are what, the raptor spins at 10,000 RPM, I caint tell the difference, any suggestions.

Thanks

Do you mean when Windows boots, it takes a long time to load everything? If so, start by turning off auto-launch, and "automatically check for updates", on all your programs.

Unless you have some actual times for us... I assume what happened is - your perception of time changed. You got the Quad Core and 260GTX - some leading-edge technology. You except things to happen THIS fast. And you're using a previous generation hard-drive.

Either you get a Solid State Drive. Or, you buy a second HDD and set it up as RAID 0 - distribute the data between the two hard-drives. With Raid 0 and 2x HDD, now you have 20,000 RPM.

Another suggestion. Use your old computer for a week - or borrow a Pentium 3 or 4 from someone. And then use your new computer. And see if that makes it seem like things have started going a lot faster.

As Louis C.K. says - "It's going to space - give it a second!!!"

hey!, my pentium 3 is pretty fast and still going strong; lol.

lb704, what OS are you using? and what programs are not opening fast enough?

I think you need to install all your proper drivers. Did you do a clean install of windows/linux? Did you use an OEM version or one from a computer company?
