Computer just truns its self off

This is a friend’s computer, it is a HP Pavilion 533w, I don’t know much more than that. It started a little while back, he said that about the time the desktop came up it would just go off, now it will not get to Windows before it goes off. I have to unplug the power cord to get it to come on again, then it will do the same thing, just go off. I unplugged the hard drive, and it stayed on until I turned it off, I put in a different drive, and it gets up just before Windows and it goes off again. I would think it is the power supply, is there anyway to check it to see if this is the problem? There is a lot of dirt inside around the processor and fans, but all three fans are running OK.

Well I thought about that, but did not know if there was something a little easer than that, I don't know if they are the same or not.
 
I don't know what kind of sensors the HP has, but download Speedfan and check your temperatures to make sure they are not too high.
 
If Speedfan runs in Windows, I could not run it to see. I just runs for about 20 seconds before it goes off, I would not think it has got hot yet.
 
if its plugged in to one of those multi plug adaptors then try it straight from the power point because i had the same problem and it turned out to be my adaptor was faulty
 
I have one doing the same thing makes me mad as heck, I beleive it is my motherboard or CPU because I have changed the power supply, all tapes, swaped hard drives and still the same thing, only about two years old and not used much. Asus and sempron.
 
That is what I told my friend, he said he just get a new one, I told him to go Dell and not HP. I have had very good luck with my Dell.
