First my computer keeps randomly freezing during any application sometimes it would freeze when I am simply surfing the web or something like playing games. Sometimes I was able to close the program and bring it back however a lot of time it would do a hard freeze and I was forced to restart the computer manually. IT slowy is getting worse, when I restart it it says "insert boot disk" I used to be able to restart it and it would work fine but now its not working at all. I have an image of my computer so I tried to use it but it said it could not locate my hard drive. I thought maybe the hard drive was bad so I used Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows to test this. I was correct; it repaired some sectors however the problem still continued. Always if I left the computer idle I would come back to a frozen computer. My question is, is the problem the hard drive, RAM or something else? I know the computer is not over heating because its temp never goes higher then 55. I would greatly appreciate any help in this issue.

My computer specs are
AMD athlon 3800 X2
72 GB Digital Raptor
4 512 sticks of DDR RAM
X700 PCI-Express
I can't remember the exact name of the MO but if it’s important I can open the case.

What kind of PSU do you have and what ratings on it? the randomly freezing might be a PSU issue.

The PSU's that come with cases are generally garbage on the 12v lines. It could be your PSU, but it's prolly best to buy a new one anyway. Check out the PSU 101 for some good suggestions. You could also just do a full re-install of windows if you want (a repair install SHOULD work fine though). Mind you if you do a full re-install (format and all) you will want to back up your data first.

The freezing could also be related to a virus/spyware/adware. Look in the security forum for some good programs to do a sweep of your machine, see if that happens to be the problem.

Please do

The PSU I am currently using is the one that came with the case which is:
Its a 12V@15A which officially makes it crap.

Hardware aside I think your problem is just a crappy set of software (i.e., your Windows installation is potentially full of outright crap and all)
