Computer makes loud, annoying beeping noise when booting

Hi

I recently started receiving a very loud, annoying beeping sound (on the rig in the sig) which goes for about 1.5 seconds, stops for about half a second, and keeps on going until Windows XP comes up. Other than that annoying beeping, everything on my computer seems to be fine (no problems when booting up).

The funny thing is, this only occurs when my computer boots up after it has been off for a couple of hours. If I were to hit the restart button now, it would boot without the annoying noise, only a single beep to indicate the system has booted successfully.

I think the problem is with my system speaker. Could it be my motherboard?

Thanks

The beeps are not linked to your system speakers, but they most probably come from the BIOS encounting an error on booting up. When checking things during boot up, the BIOS can use signal codes (beeps) to refer to specific errors encountered.

Have you changed anything recently on your comp ?

Thanks for your reply

No, I have not changed anything. I dont think these beeps have anything to do with CMOS error codes - they sound completely different. And keep in mind the computer boots perfectly without any problems.

Any more ideas....?

I have an idea - Ill post an MP3 file of the beeping.. .In about 10 minutes.. Hows that?

And once again, these beeps are like no CMOS error codes I have ever heard. They are loud and irritating. The computer has no problems booting up.

Most of the time a endless beep is the Ram or CPU, say your not getting any kind of error on the bios screen when it boots

No, the computer boots flawlessly without any problems. The noise dies away sometime after WinXP has finished loading.

Should I go and buy a new case? I think the system speaker is at fault.... What do you think?

Have you checked the CPU temps or it could be a cpu warning for the CPU fan speed in the bios, could be the CPU fans not kicking in like it should from a cold start
