Computer monitor displays BIOS then black

So I have Windows 8.1 and I installed my graphics card into my computer. After I installed the card my computer then froze so I restarted the computer, and after that the automatic repair window came up and when I did the repair and restarted it the computer still remained blank. Now the BIOS displays and the load screen come up and then the screen stays black. Any ideas on why this had happened or how to fix it? Prior to this I had my computer for a year and it worked perfectly.

What video card and power supply? Remove the video card and put the old one back in and see it works.

I removed the graphics card and did not have one installed before. But I can navigate the automatic repair menus fine but if I click continue to WIndows 8.1 it goes black. My power supply is a Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply.

What exact video card did you put in? So basically you were using onboard video, so what motherboard do you have? Could be anywhere from a driver conflict to needing to reset the cmos.

Video card:
MSI GeForce GTX 650 N650-MD1GD5/OC Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0(x16), 1x Dual-Link DVI-I, 1x D-Sub (VGA), 1x HDMI, DirectX 11, Dual-Slot, Fan

Motherboard:
Biostar H77MU3 Intel 7 Series Motherboard - MicroATX, Socket (LGA 1155), Intel H77 Express Chipset, 1600MHz DDR3, SATA III 6Gb/s, RAID, 6-CH Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0

OK, what I would do is do a cmos reset. Remove power cord from power supply, open the side of the case and remove the cmos battery from the motherboard, press the power button on the case for 10 seconds, then wait 10 minutes. Reinsert battery, reconnect power cord and try booting into windows.

So I was able to get the computer to turn on without doing what you mentioned and the computer worked fine (I went in the automatic repair and had it scan the disk and fix it) but after that I went to class and came back and the screen froze on the desktop view so I had to restart. Would what you mentioned fixed that problem or is this something completely different?

Is it working fine now or no? If the machine works by removing the video card then I would assume something is up with the video card. You will just have to do some diagnosing.

No I removed the video card and then i did what i mentioned (automatic repair disk check) walked away for a few hours for class came back and the computer completely froze.

Then I would definately try the procedure I mentioned. Did you install any driver software? Try booting into safe mode.

So you did the cmos reset? Sometimes stuff like that can happen when adding new hardware.

Go ahead try it again, you can always reset again. If it happens again then something is most likely wrong with the card.
