Computer Network Help

I just started having problems with my desktop's internet today. From this laptop, I'm on the same connection as my desktop is, so that means that our cable connection is still working, but I believe it's probably something with my network adapter. When I start up my computer, it stays at the XP Welcome screen for a minute or so, and then it gets stuck at a screen that shows my background, and no desktop icons, bars, or nothing, like it's stuck loading or something. Then, when it finally does load up, it says that my internet has limited or no activity.

I have an AMD 4000+, an on-board NVidia network adapter, Comcast internet, a wireless modem, not a router, just a modem, and my desktop is connected directly to the modem.

So, I think I've thoroughly given background information about this, but I'm not sure where to go from here. I hope someone out there can help me.

Thanks you guys.

How do I do that, and what's the file you are trying to link? I clicked on it, and it says that the file has been moved, or no longer exists.

Thank you so much for the help. That program did just the trick.

It's funny how I've spent about 10 hours on the phone with various tech support people, and a few posts from you could fix this.

Again, thanks so much.
