this might sound obtuse to you techies but is it worth buying a monitor that has a hdmi interface if my desktop comp has not got it

It's not a big deal whether you do or not because you would only need an adapter cable, however i haven't heard of any monitors with an HDMI interface...could you provide a link to the product?

HDMI is simply derived from HDMI. As mentioned, it's a direct conversion either way. The only difference is that HDMI carries audio.

I assume you meant DVI? If you are looking for something big and HD I have found tvs go on sale more and often are cheaper. Then use it as a monitor via hdmi. Sometimes they have less pixels, but if for gaming its hard to go past 1080p anyways.

to get your "crisp" image you'll need a pc with hdmi capability

i'd say go with the vga one or get a better vid card

As said before HDMI is just DVI with audio output

Dvi supports the same resolution's as HDMI

Edit: All you need is an Dvi to HDMi cable

You do NOT need an hdmi gpu to use a hdmi monitor

so the cable will give me the best resolution
what about the video card changing that will that show crisper pic
