computer not as fast as i thought suggestions??

i just bought this computer and its not as fast as i thought it would be kind of stutters and a lot slower than my laptop. Here is a list of the items on it, also running xp pro with sp3 right now. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Press the button labeled "Open the Misc Tools Section". Then check both the check boxes next to the "Generate StartupList Log" button and click the button. Click the button to generate the list, save it and upload it as an attachment to your next post, and I or some other forum member will advise you on what else to disable, if anything.

Then run HijackThis! in normal mode and
post your scan log here and we'll see if there's anything else that needs to be looked at.

Finally, you can install a free anti-virus to help keep you protected (these aren't nearly as taxing on your memory as Norton). I prefer AVG Free Edition, but I've heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials as well. Avira AntiVir and Avast! are two more options. Please install one of these programs to help keep you virus free.

After you've done all of these things, please wait until the computer is idle (no programs loading/scanning/etc), and hit ctrl+alt+delete and make note of your CPU usage at the bottom of the popup window.

On your next post, please include both the HijackThis! Logs I've requested, your idle CPU usage, any steps you left out, the make/model of your computer, and let us know how your it is running now.

If this is in reference to gaming, then yes, that's not a very good gaming machine. The 9500 is a fairly low-end GPU. What you have there is an awesome workstation for like video editing or other similar processor-intensive applications. If you want to do gaming, upgrade your GPU and your power supply.
 
i use it a lot for editing and what not, it is basically brand new, i have barely even used it yet. What do you recommend for psu? and gpu? without killing the wallet
 
so i threw in a new psu went with the corsair 650 and that def helped a lot but still not terrific. is it a good chance it being my gpu? suggestions on a better one under $200
 
So whats it doing now? same thing? Did it act like that when you first installed windows? Most likely a software issue if so.
 
If your running XP, take out about half of that memory. Its just setting there looking pretty and not doing anything.
 
I am running xp professional. i know it only uses 4 gb of it but that wouldnt cause it to run this poorly. i have it built to run 7 eventually. anyways it does this all the time. the cursor will either stop moving or stutter a lot when its in use. i tried using a different mouse same problem. I have no software installed on this machine yet its just a fresh install of xp thats it.
 
its been acting like this since day 1 after getting the computer. its a fresh install of xp i know its good cuz i have used the same install on other computers and its worked fine. the only thing i have on this machine is windows, i know having more than 4gb of ram on xp is useless, but that wouldnt cause problems with it stuttering. the cursor just skips around the screen instead of being smooth like it should be. I have had this problem since day 1
 
Since its a a fresh installing, your not running on the generic XP drivers? If so you need to update all your drivers.
 
wow i think i just figured out the problem. i plugged in an old wired mouse i had laying around just for kicks and it seems to work no problem now. i had been trying a bunch of wireless ones that i had with no luck. wired did the trick i guess

Nice the computer couldnt even handle a little mouse :) Might have to put that in my sig.
 
You were probably using an old mouse and had it in an awkward postion so it couldn't get very good reception. Don't take this personally, but it makes me LOL that you thought your whole computer was slow where your mouse cursor was simply acting funny. Good to see the problem solved though.
 
funny as it is, its a pretty new mouse. I tried changing batteries on it and everything i never would have thought it to be the actual reception of the mouse. That same mouse works perfectly fine on my laptop from clear across my room. Oh well
