My computer will not start up correctly. When turned on I can hear the fans going but nothing else seems to boot up and the computer will not display a screen. What are the likely causes?
Thanks for any help,
Oscar

If the system has been running normally for a long period of time one thing often overlooked is the Lithium type watch/calculator battery found on the board which maintains the cmos information. Those can go after a good year or longer while some do last upto the 5yr. max. sometimes. For a newer build a power connection may have come loose. Examine these first. The worst is having cooked something like the cpu from overheating or a failed supply when a cap suddenly goes bad.

Would you replace a board and later find out it was a $2 battery? When swapping one supply for a larger model recently one simple thing hit home when it reminded me about how one small fix solved a world of headaches! Have a look for yourself at http://www.computerforum.com/80790-bad-board-simply-need-replug.html

Gee? Have a laugh until you realize? It only takes "one small thing or two" to goof up the whole works! A loose contact inside the 12v cpu feed's plug and one edge of an ide connector pulled out just a tiny bit not to be seen can...
