computer not booting up

Hi,
Please could someone help with this. My daughter has just come home from uni and her computer is not working. She says that a friend at uni had a look at it for her. I have tried starting it but it comes up with a message ' NTLDR is missing' What does this mean? Please advise if you can. Thanks

Is the computer turning on and not booting up into Windows? Or is the computer just not starting at all?

Did you or your daughter recently upgrade the computer to Windows XP from another Operating System like Windows 95,98, 2000, or Millenium?

The screen shows IBM logo
then bios
then NTLDR is missing

Are there any changes that you or your daughter made to the system such as installing a new Operating System?

I think she said that her friend was going to change the OS

Well that's the problem. Let me remember how to fix this then ill post it up.
