Computer not displaying on the monitor

So I have a problem here, I checked the thermal paste of my CPU to see if there was lack of paste, there didn't seem to be a lack of it from what I saw. I put the heat sink back on the processor and turned the system on, all the fans, lights, cd drives and hard drives turned on, but there was no display on the monitor. The graphics card is working though, I put it in a friends PC and it runs just fine. What could be the problem? I have 2 possible reasons, tell me if you think either of them could be right, or if there is something else I should look for

1. the motherboard was damaged and isn't displaying anything, I don't even get a bios screen. This could be the problem because while removing the heat sink and fan I had to use screw driver to pry the clip a little bit and i accidentally hit the motherboard with the screw driver. There are no physical signs of damage though.

2. The CPU is getting too hot. While the computer is on the heat sink gets hotter then I remember it to be. But if it was getting to hot wouldn't the system shut down totally?

any help is greatly appreciated.
 
I already did that as well, at this point I think I'm just going to let it alone and come back to it in a few hours and see how it works then
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that when you remove a CPU to proper thing to do is clean off the paste and reapply, instead of just sticking it back on. I can't imagine that this would be that big of a deal, unless you're over clocking and it's running hot to begin with. Like kof said, try clearing your CMOS. This can be done by either removing the mobo battery for a period of time, or by setting the J2 jumper. If this is something you have never done, you might want to google it.
 
did you wait until it cooled down before you change the paste?

you should wait till it is cold then change the paste and put it back and dont forget to wear a wrist strap or touch the case.
 
I did not change the paste, I just looked at it to see the condition of it. I set the jumper to clear the CMOS, but I will also take out the battery as well and see if that works. I am ordering a new heat sink and fan along with some arctic silver 5 to see if reappling the paste fixes it
 
I tried to start it up again and the same thing happend. All the fans turned on, even the ones plugged in the motherboard but no display. I took out the battery on the motherboard over night and put it back in. When I took out the heatsink the processor came out with it so I didnt use the lever to get it out, could that have damaged the CPU. The CPU and heatsink still gets hot when I turn it on and let it run a bit even though there is nothing on the screen, if it was damaged would it still get hot? Other then not displaying, everything seems to be fine, CD drives open, fan lights blink, HDDs starts up
