computer not working

hey there,

i was on my brothers computer and was trying to download a cd-keygen for adobe freehand mx and i run the prog which of course like an idiot i have no idea where i got it from. and it brought up the cdos command menu and then did nothing,so i ran it 3 more times and nothing then i installed it and ran it. then the computer shut down. now when we start up his computer it will go load then go to the blue screen with all the writing on it and just restart again. does anyone have any help or advice other than formating the computer? any help would be appreciated, thanks. and i know im an idiot.
 
damn sorry, im not trying to talk about the keygen im trying to talk about how to fix my comp and find out whats wrong, i was just saying what led to it. but sorry.
 
It's Ok.

Try booting your computer in Safe Mode, I'm not sure what key it would be, but it should say before the computer fully boots, look around, normally F8 or something.

ok thanks let me try doing that and see what happens....right now though my brother is doing the hp-recovery program. im just hoping thats not like formating your drive is it?
 
the hp recovery does not delete all your files....But a Destructive system recovery will so i hope for your sake he didnt choose that option :P
 
im waiting for this recovery program to finish before i can do what kornowski said. just hope it doesnt make things worse.

Oooops, lets hope your sake he didn't choose the latter option.
 
lol well right now it finished the recovery and is saying preparing to startup windows on a blue screen with alot of dots..... so hopefully thats a good sign?

ya im on my computer, id never dl anything sketchy like that onto my own computer.

and i dont think he chose the other option that you guys are referring too.
 
ok so we did that and now the computer is working again, but all of his pictures and music are gone, preety much anything that was dl'ed looks like its just gone...this is terrible. guess i gotta pay for my stupidity. and im guessing there is no way to recover this stuff?

I guess you did the repair that puts it back to factory settings... I don't think there is a way to get them back, sorry man.

he must have done a destructive system recovery to lose the files then because when i just did a recovery using my recovery disk it would just restore windows leaving my files as they were.(I have a hp also)

i doubt they can be recovred but i may be wrong:o
 
damn damn and damn. but thanks so much for the help guys i really appreciate it. and i will most definitly be sticking around on this forum. i wanna learn and help as well. thanks again.
